Jeffrey Beckwith Borhek

Passed September 5, 2018 at his home in Steilacoom, with his his wife of 54 years, Jone, at his side. He was born in Tacoma Wa on November 27, 1945 sharing his birthday with his father. He was the middle son of Edward and Francis Borhek and grandson to the Tacoma Architect, Roland Borhek . He is survived by his brothers Ed Borhek and Brian Borhek (Sue) their children; Melisa Lester(Eddie), Bryn ( ) and Branden (Chasssi) and 4 grandnephews and 1 grand niece: also Jone’s family, Richard Karman (Dorthy) and family Katy, Rob (Rachel) and four grand nephews; Patricia Karman (Corinne Poole); Paul Karman and his children, Julia, Nick, Noelle and Zac and one grand nephew.
Jeff grew up living on the water near Dash Point State Park, He and his brother were free range children with boats and the forest as their playground. Jeff graduated from Stadium High School in 1964 and attend the University of Puget Sound. Jeff began as a box boy at the neighborhood store in Tacoma and ended up served the North End of Tacoma as a grocer and meat cutter for 38 years at Big Value Tom Boy. He was known for having the coldest beer in town, just as HE preferred his Heidelberg and Budweiser. He made friends with three generation of families while at Big Value, provisioning fish boats for many of the North End fishermen off to Alaska and doing home deliveries long before it was a tend.
Jeff met his wife to be, Jone Karman, at a church youth event and they were married in October of 1964; first living in Tacoma, then Steilacoom, next they built a home in Lakewood and then returned to Steilacoom to finish out their life together with a view of the water, mountains and islands.
Jeff and Jone owned a boat most of their married life. Jeff learned to sail with his dad who was a boat builder and architectural engineer. Jeff captained his power boat, the Misty Autumn, for 35 years. He had a membership at the Tacoma Yacht Club where he served as Treasurer. He was also a Board member for the Washington State Food Dealers and served as treasurer of the Steilacoom Chamber of Commerce for many years while he assisted in making the Secret Salmon Sauce. He and Jone are Life members of the Steilacoom Historical Museum Society and he was an Old Timer at Tacoma Elks where he loved to played pool. He also spent time playing pool at the old Schooner Tavern where he had many friends and few enemies.
He traveled around the world, interesting the KGB in Russia, and learning about new foods in China. Vacations were enjoyed mainly in Maui where golf with friends was a high priority. His love of flying was enhanced by his service in the Washington Air National Guard.
He will be missed by many good friends and family, his long suffering is over. Thanks Nick, Paul and Franciscan Hospice staff Gina and Monica.
