Obituary for Joan Marilyn Lewallen

Our mother began her journey to heaven on August 17, 2017 surrounded by loved ones.

She is survived by her children: Linda Aalbers, Robert Lewallen, Janet Schwind, Sharon Robinson (TX), Dale Lewallen, Diane Kenyon, and Debbie Lewallen - eighteen grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren. Three nephews; John Harris (AZ), David Harris, Randy Harris and several great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Ruth Fryett Harris and Parker E Harris, husbands Ronald (Lew) Lewallen and Robert Wiggs, brother Stan Harris (Annette), niece Cheryl Harris Parrish and grandson Austin Lewallen.

Joan was born in Waterloo, Iowa on January 17th, 1931. The family moved to Washington state when she was a young girl. She spent most of her childhood in the Tacoma/Gig Harbor area until a move in her senior year of high school took the family to Spokane. It is in Spokane, Washington that her legacy began...

A devoted mother, she adored her children and displayed the truest form of unconditional love. As her children grew up and the family expanded, her heart grew larger for her many grandchildren. A teller of stories, a keeper of secrets, a healer of all wounds - from skinned knees to broken hearts. Selfless, generous, kind and loving. Her happiest times were when her family was gathered around her. And it didn't stop there. She was a "mom" to many and a friend to all. Always ready to help any one when they needed her. Just to listen or offer advice. An extended "family" by association for all the people in our lives that we love, too.

Joan enjoyed traveling and going to the casino. Sometimes even taking spontaneous, late night excursions with her kids! She loved her trips to Spokane to see her lifelong bestie Marge, who also enjoys playing the slots. She always wished she would, "hit it big," so that she could spoil her kids and grandkids more than she already did.

Loved by all who knew her, she will be missed by just as many, Heaven gained a beautiful angel. Rest in peace dear momma. We will see you on the other side of the stars.
