Obituary for Marilyn Belle Strand

Marilyn Belle Strand

Marilyn Strand passed away October 4, 2018, at her home in Tacoma, WA, encircled by the love of her family. She succumbed after a brief battle with cancer. Marilyn was born in Tacoma on August 1, 1938, and lived most of her life there, except for a brief time in Klamath Falls, OR as a child. She is the daughter of the late John and Hilda Markert. She is survived by her sister Joyce (Roger) Olson, of Portland, OR, a son, Kevin, of Tacoma, and a daughter-in-law, Renee, also of Tacoma, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her son, Andrew (Renee) Strand.
Marilyn graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, and attended Pacific Lutheran College. She met Norman Strand while working at the Tacoma Public Library, and they wed in 1964. Marilyn and Norman had many happy years with their sons; and they collaborated in the operation of a wedding photography business. When her sons were grown, Marilyn went to Bates Vocational-Technical College and trained to be a computer programmer. She worked for many years in that field, for many companies including; Pacific First Federal, Pay-n-Save Stores, and American Stores. She worked out of town for many years on contract in California and Utah, but always called Tacoma her home.
Marilyn was a lifelong and very active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was passionate about her faith and shared her joy in Christ with everyone she met. Marilyn expressed her love of God most fluently in song; and she sang in many choirs in school and church, and in later years with the South Sound Classical Choir. She often sang solos and duets. Marilyn was a loving mother and grandmother; loving all her children equally, natural and acquired. She was an avid crafter and seamstress, sharing special gifts with many friends. A celebration of her life will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran on Saturday, October 27, at 1:00 pm. Memorial gifts may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements by Edwards Memorial, Funerals Homes, Chapels and Crematories.
