Obituary for Perry Lewis Whitaker

Perry Lewis Whitaker was born in Ovale, Texas to Lewis and Ella Whiteaker on November 25th, 1928. He passed away on June 8th, 2018 at the age of 89.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, June, and three daughters: Debra Sue McBride (Rodney), Cindy Amato (Tim) and Linda Cohen (John), as well as by one sister, Bertha Felker, of Corpus Christi, Texas.

Perry is also survived by four grandchildren: Patrick McBride (Lauren), Janice Martin (Matt), Sarah Amato, and Tom Amato, as well as seven great-grandchildren:
Gabriel, Maverick, Eloise, and Shepherd Martin; and Landon, Noelle, and Austin McBride.

Perry served in the U.S. Army, Field Artillery, for 20 years. He began his distinguished career at the age of 17 as a guard at the Nuremberg War trials in 1945. He served numerous tours of duty in Korea, Germany, and Hawaii, and at several Army posts in the States, eventually retiring as a First Sergeant at Fort Hood, Texas in 1967.

After retiring from the Army, he worked another 20 years for St. Regis Forest Products. After St. Regis, he enjoyed working as a film extra, appearing in 12 movies and numerous commercials. Perry also loved traveling to his home state of Texas whenever he could to see his family. He found joy in videotaping and photographing family gatherings and vacations (he had an amazing collection of photo albums), listening to music, taking walks, sitting outside on his deck, and tending to his flowers.

Perry will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. We are comforted by the thought that he is out of pain and in the company of Jesus and his family members who went before him.

Following the Service at Tahoma National Cemetery, a reception will be held at the home of Tim and Cindy Amato. The address will be provided at the service.

All are invited to attend.
