Obituary for Robin Hood

Robin Hood

Born 16 May 1927 in Macon, GA
Passed 26 April 2018 Tacoma, WA

Robin Hood was a Veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He spent 30+ years in the military and in government service, living overseas and across the USA. He served in the Army, Navy & Air Force, Reserves and National Guard in GA, CA, OR, TX, FL, WA, Japan and Europe. He excelled as a physiotherapist in Japan, spending two years helping a young polio patient learn to walk. His favorite military assignment was Vandenburg AFB, on the beautiful central coast of California. He served with the CA National Guard, placed on alert status during the Watts race riots in LA. In early 1970s, he enjoyed medevac missions to Vietnam for transport of patients to US for treatment. His restless nature led him to move often and hold many different jobs: budget analyst, Postman, theatre manager, window decorator, kidney dialysis tech, infant care, property management, rug cleaning, hospital admin and doughnut baker.

Following his retirement, Robin moved to rural Wisconsin to be near his wife Patricia’s family and settled down, enjoying the slower pace. He spent precious time with his two young sons, taking them to hockey games and hanging out at the ice rink.

Robin was an avid railway fan and his fondest memories were of riding streetcars. He belonged to Orange Empire Rail Museum for years and was President of a citizen’s transit advisory board in San Francisco. He spent hours building a large HO gauge layout that filled the basement and was featured on TV by a local station. He became known as Papa Choo Choo, entertaining his grandson Thomas with the train set.

During the past 30 years, Robin resided primarily in Tacoma,
WA, Atlanta, GA, Black River Falls and Alma Center, WI.
Robin is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patricia; daughter, Serina Hood; two sons, Robin & Mark, their wives Dana & Caitlin, and four grandchildren Thomas (11), Marley (4), Avery (3) and Cameron Hood (3 months). His legacy lives on.

MSG (Ret) Robin Hood will be interred on 16 May 2018 with military honors at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA, on what would have been his 91st birthday.
