Obituary for Sivert Olaf Hagen

Sivert Olaf Hagen

Sivert Olaf Hagen was born in Englewood, NJ, to Olaf Hagen and the former Ingeborg Borge on Valentine’s day in 1949. Sivert left us suddenly on Oct. 3, 2018. He grew up in Closter, NJ, graduated from Demarest High School in Demarest, NJ, and received his bachelor’s degree from Haverford College in Haverford, PA. After college, Sivert studied sculpture at the Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture in New York City. Sivert made money as a hotel clerk, a mover, an antique carpet restorer, a handyman, a proofreader and a magazine editor; but, aside from his family, what he loved most were sculpture, books and dogs. Sivert never missed an opportunity to tell a joke or a story, and everyone who knew him will miss hearing his voice.

Sivert was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Synnova Gooding, and several loyal dogs.

Sivert is survived by his wife, Brenda Cummings; daughter, Jeanne Hagen of Tacoma, WA; nephews Ed, Andrew and Geoff Gooding of Hopewell, NJ, Huntington, WVA, and Edmonton, Alberta, respectively; nephews Kyle and Jordan Williams of Tacoma, WA; and nephews Mario, Dominic, Aidan and Julian Cummings of Seattle, WA.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the ACLU, the NAACP or another progressive charity.
