Obituary for Sondra Faye Dow

Sondra Faye Dow, 62, of Puyallup WA, passed away on August 30, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup. She was born September 2, 1954 to Warren Harbison and Mary Jones in Renton, WA
Sondra is survived by her husband of 43 years, Carl Dow; two daughters, Christy (Chris) Miller, Rachael Dow; son Walter (Bernadette) Dow; four grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Layla, and Keenen. She is preceded in death by her parents Warren and Mary, and son-in-law, Mike Barger.
Sondra was raised in White Center, WA and graduated from Evergreen High School in 1972. She then attended ITT Peterson School of Business in Seattle where she would meet her future husband. After attending business school she briefly worked for the Boeing Company in Seattle. On September 9, 1973, Sondra married Carl Dow and together they settled in West Seattle.
Sondra left the Boeing Company to devote her full time to being a Domestic Engineer, and raising her children. She returned to work for a short time as a cashier for Giant T drug store, until she discovered that she was expecting her third child.
The family would relocate several times. Living in Onalaska, WA. and then Mossyrock, WA. in Lewis County, and eventually moving back to King County, living in White Center, Burien, Des Moines, Auburn, and finally settling down in Puyallup in Pierce County.
Besides raising her three children, Sondra would also help to care for not only her grandchildren, but the children of her good friend, and Sondra’s ailing mother.
Sondra always enjoyed telling the story about when she and her mother traveled to Elwood, Indiana to visit her grandparents during the summer of 72. One night she had a dream that she was sitting in a class room. A young man walked into the room, and all Sondra could see was the back of his head, and his green shirt. After returning home in September, Sondra enrolled at ITT Peterson School of Business. Sitting in the class room for Records Management she noticed that the room looked familiar, just like the room in her dream. And then a young man walked in the room. At first glance all she could see was the back of his head and a green shirt, just like in the dream. She told the lady sitting next to her, “I’m going to marry that guy.” The lady asked her, “Oh! You know him?” Sondra told her, “Not yet.” A year later the two were married.
Sondra was not only called wife, and friend, but she was also called mom by many of her children’s friends. She was also known as coach by the children on her son’s Little League baseball team.
Sondra’s grandson Matthew defined her life in the way I believe would make Sondra very happy. He wrote, “She was a wife, a mom, grandmother, daughter, sister, a friend, an angel.”
Per Sondra’s request there will not be a funeral service.
All donations can be made to Seattle Children’s Hospital for cancer research.
