Obituary for Valerie Laureen Oleson

Valerie L Oleson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and best friend was called home suddenly, to be with the Lord on Wednesday Sept. 26th. She was born Feb. 13th, 1952, in Tacoma, attended Central Elementary, Jason Lee M.S, and graduated from Stadium High School in 1970. Valerie worked for the Tacoma School District as a one-on-one para for individuals with special needs, while continuing her education towards a degree in early childhood education. She always was a diligent, conscientious and compassionate worker in whatever she took on. We cannot recall a time when she did not work less than 3 jobs, all the while balancing family life. She took side jobs always as a care-giver for the elderly and people with special needs. One job or was it, as an Avon rep, she sold Avon to family and friends always at her discount. Oh wait, we should say she bought Avon. It was a joke between all of us, was it income or did she buy more for herself than she sold to others? Val loved that bling!
She was always so generous with everyone about everything. A wise compassionate lady, that loved people and was loved by all who knew her. Rarely, do people come into this world and leave such a positive impact on every life they touch. Valerie was just such a person. With her love for the Lord, her calming manner, her serving heart, and the love she shared with every single person she encountered. It did not matter to her if you were a family member, a long-time friend, or a total stranger she met on the street and took home, let shower and fed dinner. She showed the same love to everyone. This unconditional Godly love showed through everything she did and everyone she touched. You always walked away a better person for knowing her. She could fill any room with the light of God’s love, regardless of the situation. Children gravitated to her, older people adored her, everyone loved her. Val’s laughter was infectious and her blue eyes could melt the coldest of hearts. You couldn’t help but to feel good when you were around her. God truly blessed us and this world when He allowed us all to share her space and the love she brought.
She is survived by her sole-mate of 23 years, husband Clarence Oleson of Tacoma. Much beloved Sons: Jeff Allen (Kris) of New Hampshire, Jason Oleson of Tacoma and daughter Nichole Brewer of Sumner. Beloved brothers: Virgil Maier (Sylvia) of Fircrest, Loring Maier of Tacoma, and sister Cherie Ragan (Jack) of Fircrest. Beloved nephews and nieces: Mark Carlson (Barbara), Heather Nelson (Mark), Charissa Ragan, and Lucas Maier-Bentley. Last, but not least, her beloved grandchildren: Bailey, Emma, Elliot, Jessie, Brook, Paul, Gabriel, Blake, and Brooklyn. We will miss and love her forever.
