The life and Times of William (Bill) Johnson: Feb/ 15/ 1934 – Feb/ 1/ 2019

William Johnson was born on February 15, 1934 in Montgomery, Alabama, raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and passed away at the age of 84 on February 1, 2019 in Lakewood, Washington. William was the beloved husband of Maria Espinosa-Lopez, who preceded him in death on March 4, 2008.

He is survived by his seven children: Antonia Johnson, Francisca E. Johnson, Guillermo Johnson, Samuel Johnson, Fernando Johnson, Jackie Johnson, William Johnson and his dear sister Celia Mae.

He also had many grandchildren: Melody Tufo, Johnny R. Bullock Jr., Jalisa R. Bullock, Jezreel R. Proo’, Jeremiah R. Bullock, Joyce R. Bullock, Jessica Johnson, Bianca Johnson, Maria Verdell, Maria, Antonia Johnson, Brandy Scrifes, Justus and Justine Johnson, Sariah Johnson, and Shaye Johnson.

He also had many Great-grandchildren: Shaye, Jenna, Vince Jr., and Liam Tufo, Lyla Proo’, Nya and Michael, Natalya, Alana, Nayalani, and Kyrie, Jayda Scrifes, and Hokulani Johnson.

William became ill while living on the church grounds as a caretaker in Hawaii and moved to Washington state in November of 2015 with his daughter Francisca Johnson and her children. He always spoke of his children and his wife Maria who passed before him. He loved his family until the end and, as you can see from the list of names above, gave birth to a large family and a legend that will continue on.

His one and only desire was that all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren would come to know the lord as he did. His mother, Fannie Mae Johnson, taught him this prayer as a child and it was passed down to his children before her passing. May it always remain with his loved ones.

“Now I lay me down to sleep

I pray the lord my soul to keep

If I should die before I wake

I pray the lord my soul to take

Enjoy your time with your lord and savior Jesus Christ Daddy. One day we will see you again.

William was a God-fearing man who loved reading the bible and sharing the gospel to all who would listen. Lord Jesus Christ was first in his life. He made sure all his children and grandchildren knew the lord he served. His Bible was very important to him and never far from him.

William also served his country in the United States Air Force. He served in Vietnam and Korea, travelling across the world. He was a top-notch baker/chef and won numerous awards for his cakes. His sweet tooth was a gift he was able to share with others. He was assigned to Spain, where he met and married the love of his life, Maria. Later two of his sons would return to Spain to play professional basketball. From there, they had 4 children in Spain, 2 in New York, and 1 in Hawaii where he retired after 21+ years of service in the USAF.

William loved fishing, baking, cooking, bingo, and astronomy. He loved the stars and planets and his favorite book was the Bible. He was always studying god’s word and fellowshipping with the saints of god. He enjoyed gospel music, TBN, news, and classic westerns. His love of music compelled him to teach himself guitar and piano. He really enjoyed listening to Buck Owens, Jimmy Jones, and George Benson. He was pretty much always taking in knowledge. Food was his friend and boy did he enjoy a good steak, fried chicken, and the occasional cold beer or soda. There were many calls at all times of the day asking for meals he craved, whether the place was open or not. In the end, he wouldn’t give up his ice cream and orange juice.

This man made an impact on many lives and he will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace Dad, Grandpa, Great-grandpa.

Love always,

Your family
